Kurdpur brothers sentenced to jail
After 250 days without any hearing, the Mehabad Revolutionary Court on Sunday convicted Mesud and Xusrew Kurdpur of spreading illegal propaganda and attempt to national security on October 9, 2013.
Xusrew Xusrewi one of Kurdpurs lawyers told Mukrian Agency: “Xusrew Kurdpur has been sentenced to six years in prison and two years of exile in the city of Kerman for allegedly acting against national security. Mesud Kurdpur has been sentenced to three years and a half in prison charged with conspiracy against the government”.
According to Rojhelat website the lawyers of the two brothers said they will appeal the verdict by the Mehabad Revolutionary Court.
Kurdish journalist and human rights activist Xusrew Kurdpur and his brother Mesud Kurdpur (a teacher with a master degree in political science) have been incarcerated for their alleged accusation of “enmity with God, aiding opposition parties, insulting the Supreme Leader and publication of false news” by Mehabad Revolutionary Court on 8 March 2012.
International human rights organizations are concerned about the new wave of arrest of political activists and journalists in Iran and East Kurdistan.
