Cevriye Guven, mother of Democratic Society Congress (DTK) co-chair and HDP Hakkari MP Leyla Guven who has been on an unlimited nonalternating hunger strike for 58 days demanding an end to the isolation imposed upon Kurdish People’s Leader Abdullah Ocalan, lost her life this morning. Cevriye Guven was 94 and was bedridden due to her advanced age.

Cevriye Guven passed away in Konya and will be buried in the Yapali neighborhood of Cihanbeyli.

Leyla Guven’s lawyers will be visiting the Diyarbakir Type E Closed Prison today to inform her of her mother’s passing. If Guven’s health permits, her lawyers will be appealing to the Diyarbakir Heavy Penal Court No.9 so she can attend her mother’s funeral.

HDP’S MESSAGE OF CONDOLENCES

HDP issued a message of condolences on the passing of Leyla Guven’s mother and said, “Cevriye Guven, the mother of DTK Co-chair and our Hakkari MP Leyla Guven who has been on a hunger strike for 58 days, has passed away at 94. We are deeply pained to lose her and we offer our condolences to Leyla Guven, who has been in resistance for months for the future of the peoples of Turkey, and her family. May god’s mercy be upon her. It is a shame for this country that Cevriye Guven passed away without seeing her daughter Leyla Guven in her final days. We strive to build a life for our mothers where they can live a peaceful life with their loved ones.”

HUSEYIN SIK PASSED AWAY

Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) Istanbul MP Ahmet Sik’s father Huseyin Sik (81) also lost his life. Huseyin Sik had been receiving treatment in a private hospital in Antalya. His funeral will be held in the Uncali Cemetery following the Friday prayers, and he will be buried in the Sarisu Cemetery in the Konyaalti district.
