Macron, Scholz call for negotiations between Russia and Ukraine

France and Germany have reportedly “demanded an immediate ceasefire from Russia.”

French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz on Thursday urged Russian President Vladimir Putin to sit down at a negotiation table with Kyiv, French and German sources said.

Macron and Scholz talked to Putin in a phone call.

“Emmanuel Macron and Olaf Scholz insisted that any solution to this crisis must come through negotiations between Ukraine and Russia,” AFP cited a source from the German government as saying.

France and Germany “demanded an immediate ceasefire from Russia”.

Macron, Scholz and Putin also reportedly agreed to “remain in close contact over the coming days”.

After three rounds of talks between Moscow and Kyiv in Belarus, the Foreign Ministers of both countries met for the first time this Thursday in Antalya, south Turkey. However, no result has come out of this high-level meeting.
