MEPs hold “Freedom for Ocalan, end the isolation” demonstration

A group of deputies from the European Parliament held a demonstration against the isolation imposed upon Kurdish People’s Leader Abdullah Ocalan.

Deputies from leftist groups in the European Parliament (EP) held a demonstration to "end the isolation” with the hunger strikers in Strasbourg who visited them this Tuesday. The MEPs demanded freedom for Leyla Guven and other elected officials.

Julie Ward from the UK, Martina Anderson from Northern Ireland and Takis Hadjigeorgiou from Cyprus attended the demonstration as well as other MEPs.

EP deputies held signs protesting the isolation together with KCDK-E Co-chair Yuksel Koc, HDP Siirt MP Meral Danis Bestas, HDP Representative Faruk Doru and other Kurdish representatives.

The signs had demands like “Freedom for Abdullah Ocalan”, “End the isolation against Abdullah Ocalan” and “Freedom for Leyla Guven”.

The demonstration was held in a press hall and the MEPs expressed support for the hunger strikes against the isolation and called on the Committee for the Prevention of Torture (CPT) and the EP to take action.

The MEPs will be holding a press conference this afternoon.
