From the prison in Logrono, were he is held since 2009, Arnaldo Otegi, one of the most well known figures in the Abertzale Left (Indepedent Left) sent a message to congratulate "the people of Kurdistan as well as the imprisoned leader Abdullah Öcalan" for his Newroz message.

"I wish you the greatest luck in the world so that the path undertaken brings freedom to your people", said Otegi, adding "On this path, we will be with you in solidarity."
