Millions start celebrating Newroz in Northern Kurdistan

Millions of Kurds started celebrating Kurdish New Year (Newroz) in cities of Northern Kurdistan.

The largest of the celebrations takes place in Diyarbakir where hundreds of thousands gather in Newroz Park.

Despite the arbitrary practices of Turkish police to prevent people from attending the celebrations, residents filled the Park with red-yellow-green flags and shawls. The crowd chants "Biji Serok Apo - Long live leader Apo" and "Long live the struggle for Afrin".

In Van, more than a hundred thousand attend Newroz celebrations on the foothills of the Van Castle.

Kurds in Mardin's Nusaybin, Sirnak's Cizre and Hakkari's Yuksekova district gathered together in large numbers to celebrate Kurdish New Year.

Large crowds in western cities like Istanbul and Mersin also organized mass celebrations.
