Municipality of Tufara conferred Honorary Citizenship to Öcalan

Over 10 municipalities in Italy have conferred the Honorary Citizenship to the Kurdish people’s Leader.

The Italian Municipality of Tufara, in the province of Campobasso (South of Italy), joined the other Italian municipalities and conferred the Honorary Citizenship to Kurdish People’s Leader Abdullah Öcalan.

There are now 10 municipalities that has conferred honorary citizenship to Öcalan. The application to Tufara Municipality was made by the Padre Giuseppe Tedeschi association, that stressed the work carried out by Öcalan for peace, democracy and justice in the Middle East.

The statement pointed out that Öcalan is regarded as the leader by the millions of Kurds whose country is divided in four parts.

Öcalan has been detained in Imralı since February 1999.

In his speech, Tufara Mayor, Donato Pozzuto, underlined Öcalan’s fight for the rights of the Kurdish people.

Tufara Council conferred the Honorary Citizenship to Abdullah Öcalan for his work promoting peace, democracy and justice in the Middle East.

Öcalan was also given the Honorary Citizenship by the municipalities of Campobasso, Castelbottaccio Palermo, Naples, Palagonia, Reggio Emilia, Riace, Martano, Pinerolo.
