New 5.7 magnitude earthquake registered in Karlıova

After the 5.7 magnitude earthquake in Karlıova, province of Bingöl, on Sunday, another severe earthquake with 5.6 magnitude was reported today.

According to the Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency (AFAD), the 5.6-magnitude earthquake was registered in the village of Kaynarpınar in Karlıova at 9.51 am, local time, at a depth of 7.01 kilometers. The earthquake was felt in the surrounding provinces.

A village guard died and 18 people were injured in the 5.7 magnitude earthquake that occurred in Karlıova on Sunday.

Deadly earthquakes

The last major fatal earthquake in North Kurdistan was registered on 24 January in Sivrice, province of Elazığ, and was of magnitude 6.8.

41 people were killed as a result of that earthquake.

On 22 February a 5.9-magnitude earthquake centered in Xoy city of East Kurdistan, left 10 people dead and more than 250 houses destroyed in Başkale province of Van.

At least 44 villages in Xoy were destroyed and more than 100 people were injured.
