Number of people sent to prison after Kars operation rises to 12

The number of people remanded in custody after the police political operation in Kars rose to 12.

Within the scope of the political genocide operation initiated by the Kars Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, 21 people, including Kars co-mayor Şevin Alaca, were detained after raids to their homes on 1 October.

Three of the detainees were later released at the courthouse where they were transferred to, while 3 were remanded in custody.

A further 10 people in custody were transferred to the courthouse on Thursday after completing security procedures.

After the prosecutor's statements, Halil Kan was released on condition of judicial control, while Suat Bayhan, Kaya Naki, Fahrettin Kaya, Reis Baykiz, Hamit Daşdelen, Hamdi Erkmen, Medya Tağay, Bülent Ağbaba and Ömer Albayrak were sent to the court with a request for arrest.

As a result, 9 people were taken hostage with the allegation of "being a member of an illegal organization" after the statements of the Magistrate on Duty.

Five people, including Kars Municipality co-mayor Şevin Alaca, who are still in custody, are expected to be transferred to the courthouse today.
