One million signatures for sick prisoners

TUHAD-FED, the Federation of Associations of Solidarity with Prisoners will deliver today one million signatures it has collected to the President of the Republic, the President of the Parliament and the Minister of Justice.

The petition TUHAD-FED collected signatures for is asking for the release of sick prisoners and for medical care to be available to prisoners.

Speaking before the delivering of the signatures, TUHAD-FED spokesperson Zübeyde Teker said: "We have one million signatures, and this is only part of the signatures we have actually collected. This is the result of our campaign in Ankara but in the coming days signatures from other cities will come through".

Teker pointed out that the campaign has been carried out by nine associations around the country and it has an important symbolic value. "We have not carried out this campaign in every Kurdish and Turkish city - Teker said - but we wanted to make a point and ensure the issue of sick prisoner would be forgotten".

As well as delivery the signatures, TUHAD-FED will meet a committee from opposition party CHP (Republican's People Party). "We have required a meeting with a representation of the government AK party - Teker added - but so far we got no answer from them. No answer was received so far from the Ministry of Justice".
