Open letter to the CoE and CPT against the isolation

As the indefinite and non-alternate hunger strike against the isolation continues in Strasbourg, letters sent to the CoE and CPT call for urgent action.

As the indefinite and non-alternate hunger strike against the isolation imposed upon Kurdish People’s Leader Abdullah Ocalan continues in Strasbourg, individuals and institutions continue to send letters to the Committee for the Prevention of Torture (CPT) and the Council of Europe protesting their silence.

The letters have been addressed directly to Council of Europe Secretary General and the CPT.

INCREASED CONCERN FOR OCALAN’S LIFE

The letters stress the serious concerns raised by 3 years of absolute incommunicado with Ocalan.

“We, as the Kurdish communities around the world and their friends, have no information about Mr. Ocalan since September 2016 and, therefore, we are deeply concerned about this,” said the letters and added that concerns for Ocalan’s life have increased.

“FULFILL YOUR PRIMARY FUNCTION”

The letters spoke about the hunger strikes and added that all appeals by Ocalan’s lawyers and family have been unlawfully rejected by the Turkish government.

The letters say, “You as the CPT should visit the Imrali Prison, meet with Mr. Ocalan and thus fulfill your primary role before it’s too late.”

The letters have been sent over email, the post or fax.
