Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) President Liliane Maury Pasquier issued the following statements upon receiving questions:
“We have heard that Leyla Guven was released. I must say, one can only be glad for this news. I wish she recovers as soon as possible.
Our expectation from Turkey is the full implementation of the reasonable decisions made by the PACE yesterday. We expect this because all arrested MPs should be released. MPs don’t belong in prison. They should be able to fulfill their duties freely on the outside. PACE Turkey rapporteurs do their jobs like they should, reasonably and effectively, and we monitor them.”
The report approved in the Council of Europe yesterday about Leyla Guven’s hunger strike and Turkey issued an advisory ruling to end the isolation imposed upon Kurdish People’s Leader Abdullah Ocalan.
