PM Erdoğan: Limited action against Syria not enough

Speaking to reporters during the Victory Day reception at the presidential palace in the capital Ankara on Friday, Turkish prime minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said that a limited military action against Syria would not satisfy Turkey. Erdoğan pointed out that the intervention must be something similar to the one in Kosovo, citing the NATO operation against Yugoslavia during the Kosovo war in 1999 as an example.

The Prime Minister remarked that any kind of intervention in Syria should be aimed at bringing an end to the rule of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad. "It can't be a 24 hours hit-and-run. What matters is stopping the bloodshed in Syria and pushing the regime to the point of collapsing ", he added.

Referring to the most recent statements of U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry, Erdoğan said the intervention in Syria could take place before the G-20 summit in the Russian capital Moscow next week.
