Protest against Turkish invasion of Afrin on Labor Day in Europe

“Afrin is not alone” and “End Turkish occupation” among the slogans chanted on Workers’ Day in Europe.

Hundreds of rallies were held in Europe to celebrate Labour Day May 1st.

Here is a small tour of some of the demonstrations.

LOCARNO

A Labor Day celebration was held in Locarno, Switzerland, in the Canton of Ticino. In the event, the Turkish state occupation of Afrin was also protested against.

The activity in Locarno Station Square was attended by Kurds with PKK, YPG / YPJ flags and Öcalan posters.

Ahmet Yaman, who spoke on behalf of the DKTM at the rally, noted that the PKK has been in solidarity with the peoples of the world since the day it was established.

Yaman also described the crimes of the Turkish state in Rojava and Afrin and underlined the silence of the UN.

MANNHEIM

A rally took place in Mannheim, Germany, organized by trade unions, parties and other institutions. The Kurdish Community Center also rallied with its own colors. Information in German on the occupation of Afrin were handed out in Markplatz. In the square, parties and institutions set up food stands. The event ended with music.

 

DUISBURG

Thousands of people joined the Labor Day rally in Duisburg, Germany. In the celebration that started in Duisburg-Hamborn and continued up to Landschatspark, the German police kept under siege from the morning hours the DKTM area. The police also confiscated flags and banners prepared by Kurds. Despite this Kurds joined the rally.

KASSEL / GOTTINGEN

Kurds living in the German cities of Kassel and Göttingen joined the rallies organised there. Kurds put up an information stand at the end of the meeting organised by German trade unions.

MARSEILLE

Thousands of people in Marseille, France, met at Vieux Port Square for Labor Day. The Kurdish people also joined the celebration bringing posters of the Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan, and PKK, YPG / YPJ flags. A banner reminded that “Afrin is not alone". The walk ended in front of the governor's building.

TURIN

As it is tradition, Labor May was celebrated in Piazza Castello Square in Turin, Italy. At the rally, joined by thousands of people, slogans and banners protested against Erdogan's massacres and political genocide.

 

GRAZ

Kurdish people and Austrian friends came together in Südtirolerplatz in Graz, Austria, to celebrate Labor Day. The Kurdish people behind the DKTM banner marched to Eisenetor together with the representatives of left organizations, trade unions and LGBT.

 

TYROL

Kurds in the Austrian province of Tyrol, celebrated Labor Day together with Turkish left-wing groups and Austrian groups. People gathered in front of the State Parliament and walk to Innsbruck train station.

LINZ

In Linz, Austria, many institutions and Kurds participated and celebrated Labor Day. Organizations gathered in front of the Linz Music Theater: DTKM, Amara Women's Organization, Linz Partizan, Austrian Communist Youth, Austrian Socialist Party, ATİGF, ADHK, Umut Cultural Center, ATİK, Mesopotamian Cultural Association Wels, KSV Linz, Kommintern, Austria Worker Party, Stahlstadt gegen Faschismus) all were there.
