Public Consultation on Social Accord Continues in Rojava
The commission appointed by the Constituent Assembly to discuss and prepare a social accord is continuing its work.
The Preparatory Commission is endeavouring to establish the main principles of a social accord in meetings with representatives of Arabs, Assyrians and other peoples and with civil society organisations and ordinary people in many places in Rojava.
One of these meetings for the purpose of drawing up a social accord that would have the character of a constitution was held in the town of Dırbesiyê (Ghassaniya). TEV-DEM (West Kurdistan Movement for Democratic Society) held a series of meetings with Kurdish and Arab tribes and with social groups.
At a meeting in the Cultural Centre in Dırbesiyê TEV-DEM Council Member Hisên Şawiş said that West Kurdistan was passing through a sensitive period, adding: "We have together taken many significant steps towards establishing a provisional administration". Hisên Şawiş
provided details of talks on Geneva 2, stressing the importance of the participation of the Kurdish Supreme Council. Arab and Kurdish tribal leaders at the meeting also emphasised the importance of drawing up the social accord together with the people.
Another meeting was held in the town of Kobanê (Ayn al-Arab) in the Baqi Xido Cultural Centre, attended by the Kurdistan Democrat Party, Democratic Union Party (PYD) and representatives of civil society organisations, in addition to local people. The meeting began with a minute's silence to commemorate those who have fallen in the defence of Rojava. PYD member Enwer Muslim then spoke of the necessity of a social accord for the Rojava autonomous region. Muslim added that the accord would safeguard the rights of all peoples and political and social groups in the region, and that measures taken would ensure equality.
The meeting continued with discussion of the content of the social accord.
