Kremlin Spokesperson Dimitry Peskov stated that US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin have agreed to issue a joint statement on Syria.
The statement is reportedly prepared specially for Trump and Putin’s meeting.
The statement said Putin and Trump have agreed to continue the joint fight against ISIS and to set up joint communication channels to prevent dangerous incidents.
Russian agency Tass announced the points the parties agreed on. Highlights from the Tass article are as follows:
- Putin and Trump have agreed that a military solution cannot be devised in the Syrian crisis.
- The leaders called on all parties in the Syrian conflict to actively join in the peace process in Geneva.
- Putin and Trump stated their adherence to the territorial integrity, independence and sovereignty of Syria.
- US and Russia have agreed on opening channels of communication to avoid conflict.
