Seven members of the Students Association of Yüzüncü Yıl University (YÖDER) in the province of Van have been arrested for allegedly being members of an illegal organization.
Seven students had been taken into custody following police raids in a number of houses on 7 October morning. After being referred to the prosecutor of Van Courthouse on Wednesday evening, students were arrested and sent to prison.
The names of students remanded in custody are; Yusuf Emir Büküm, Mazlum Altınok, Berivan Aksu, Melek Bozkaya, Sedat Yıkın, Cüneyt İlgün and Erhan Alagöz.
The prosecutor grounded the arrests on the statements of a secret witness who has reportedly been denied permission to withdraw his testimony about the detainees one day before the operation.
