Six detained in police crackdown in Ankara

Police attacked the demonstration for dismissed educators Nuriye Gülmen and Semih Özakça in central Ankara and detained six people.

As the hunger strike of dismissed educators Nuriye Gülmen and Semih Özakça continues on its 263rd day, the “We want our job back” demonstration they had launched before their imprisonment on Ankara’s central Yüksel Avenue is in its 383rd day, joined by their supporters.

Police have once again obstructed the demonstrators as they attempted to make a press statement to highlight the demand of dismissed educators in front of the Human Rights Monument where Nuriye Gülmen had started sit-in on November 9 last year.

The demonstrators were surrounded by the police as they unfurled a banner calling for the reinstatement of Nuriye and Semih. Police forces then tore down the banner and detained six demonstrators after one of them said “What else do you want? To kill Nuriye and Semih?”
