As DTK Co-chair and HDP Hakkari MP Leyla Guven’s hunger strike demanding the isolation imposed upon Kurdish People’s Leader Abdullah Ocalan be lifted continues on day 47, the unlimited nonalternating hunger strike launched by the Freedom for Ocalan initiative in Strasbourg, France has reached day 8. The activists spoke to the ANF and stressed that they are resolute, calling on all Kurdish people to come together around Ocalan.

IMIR: OUR MAIN GOAL IS TO BREAK THE ISOLATION

Ramazan Imir said it has been 20 years since the conspiracy against Kurdish People’s Leader Abdullah Ocalan and added: “Leader Ocalan’s conditions, his health and his safety gives us more concern every day as he has been held in the Imrali island alone for 20 years. There is a plan to physically eliminate him. It has been 2.5 years since last contact with him, when his brother visited him in Imrali. Nobody has heard anything since. All Kurdish people are concerned and worried for his wellbeing. We don’t think this is just about the Turkish state. We know this is a concept by international powers and the status quo as well as collaborating powers.”

“Our main goal is to break the isolation imposed upon Abdullah Ocalan,” said Imir and added: “We want a comittee (made up of lawyers, his family and politicians) to make contact and inform the public about his situation. We also demand that the relevant institutions in Europe take action.”

URAL: OUR PEOPLE SHOULD TAKE ACTION

Agid Ural said, “The purpose of this action is to break the isolation imposed upon Leader Ocalan. We will continue until it is. Our action will continue until we hear from our Leader. I’m calling on the youth to organize the people and take action. Only through such organization can we break the isolation.”

SURGUT: WE ARE RESOLUTE IN OUR ACTION

Deniz Surgut said the morale on the 7 days of the hunger strike has been well and added: “We are determined to take our action to its conclusion. This may affect my health, but my resolution will not waiver. If our people are concerned for our health, they should do their part in bringing this action to success. The right steps should be taken for the Leader’s freedom. We are resolute and we are clear.”

Surgut criticized European institutions’ approach towards them harshly.

SOLHAN: ALL SHOULD DO ALL THEY CAN

Kerem Solhan said the activists are determined: “Our people should participate in this process wherever they are. They should do whatever they can.”

Ayvaz Ece said they are happy with visits from the public: “We will be here until we break the isolation. We won’t leave. Our people should come together around the Leader. Today is the day. This is a sacred day. We must unite and prevail. There is no other chance.”
