14 Kurdish patriots went on a hunger strike in the French city of Strasburg in order to support the indefinite and non-alternating hunger strike launched by Leyla Guven in protest at the aggravated isolation regime imposed on Kurdish People’s Leader Abdullah Ocalan. The action in Strasbourg is on day 40 now.
Nurgül Başaran and Gülistan Çiya İke, two of the hunger strike activists in Strasbourg, stated that they are determined to continue their action. The two activists greeted the new hunger strikers who have joined the campaign in different places.
“A price must be paid to secure results”
Başaran stated that the hunger strike campaign has now spread in Europe, Hewler and many other places, emphasizing that serious actions must be taken in order to ensure the removal of the isolation. Başaran highlighted the critical health condition Leyla Guven is facing, mentioning her physical challenges caused by the hunger strike on the 80th day.
“Our morale is high. What keeps us standing, is our culture of resistance. We are being through times when a price must be paid. Our action will continue until we achieve a result.”
Başaran stressed that there must be an all-out resistance against the all-out attacks, and Ocalan’s isolation will never be acceptable. She said that their hunger strike serves as self-criticism at the same time and called on everyone to take action wherever they are.
“The actions must not be confined to demonstrations, we should inform everyone from house to house. With innovative and effective actions we should strengthen the resistance,” she added.
“Everyone should join the resistance”
Another hunger striker, Gülistan Çiya İke, who is a journalist, also highlighted Leyla Güven’s critical situation and stated that the hunger strike campaign will continue until the isolation is entirely removed. İke pointed out that the resistance front is now expanded with the hunger strikes, and urged everyone to gather around the activists and join the resistance.
“In order for concrete steps to be taken, multidimensional actions should be organized in all areas. Our appeal to our people and our friends is to unite around the action of Leyla Güven, to step up the resistance and to achieve victory. On the 40th day of our fast, we call on everyone to be a part of the resistance.”
