International solidarity with Leyla Güven is growing.
Swedish Left Party administrators participated in the campaign the Sara Women’s Union is conducting in solidarity with Leyla Guven and announced that they support her, joining in her demand that the isolation imposed upon Kurdish People’s Leader Abdullah Ocalan be ended.
Left Party MP Daniel Riazat, Gothenburg City Councillor Daniel Brenmar and Stockholm Regional Chair Elana Karlstrom prepared video messages and said Guven is at risk of losing her life.
Daniel Brenmar said Turkey systemically violates human rights and imprisons opposition members and Kurds, adding: “We will take initiatives to voice the demands of Leyla Guven and other prisoners in the Council of Europe and other organizations.”
Left Party MP Daniel Riazat pointed out that Guven has been imprisoned for objecting to the invasion of Afrin and that she has started her hunger strike to condemn the isolation imposed upon Ocalan and dictator Erdogan’s oppressive approach towards the Kurdish people, stressing that himself and the Left Party will support Guven’s struggle to the end.
Left Party Stockholm Regional Chair Elana Karlstrom said Guven is an MP who fights for democracy, human rights and equality and added that she has been on a hunger strike for 78 days. Karlstrom added that she supports her struggle to improve prisoners’ conditions and have their rights recognized.
