While representatives of political organisations in Rojava are holding talks to establish a joint approach to Geneva II, the visit of the president of the Syrian National Council, Ahmad al-Jarba, to Hewler has created controversy.
Ilham Ehmed, who is in Hewler for the ongoing talks between the West Kurdistan People's Assemblies (MGRK) and the (SKNC), stated on Ronahi TV's Buyer programme that Ahmad al-Jarba had come to Hewler to prevent unity amongst Kurds.
Ehmed recalled that the purpose of the Hewler talks was to activate the SKNC and Kurdish Supreme Council, and that their aim was not solely to attend Geneva II, but also to take the Kurdish question to the conference. Ilham Ehmet emphasised that the timing of al-Jarba's arrival in Hewler was significant, adding: "it is evident that al-Jarba has come to Hewler to prevent the Kurds establishing unity. The SKNC says if al-Jarba does not accept their demands they will form an alliance with us. The coalition does not want an alliance to be formed by the Kurds."
Ehmed said their attitude to joining the coalition was dependent on the coalition's stance, adding: "if they recognise the will and rights of the Kurds we will be prepared to develop an alliance with them.”
Yesterday Aldar Xelil told ANF that progress had been made regarding sending a joint, independent delegation with the SKNC to the Geneva II conference, adding that the SKNC had asked for a day before giving a definite answer.
In a statement to the Naharnet internet site, al-Jarba claimed the Kurds would attend Geneva II within two separate delegations, on the government side and on the opposition side.
