Tuğluk tables legislative proposal for ill prisoners
Democratic Society Congress (DTK) co-chair Aysel Tuğluk has tabled a legislative proposal demanding the arrangement of the code of criminal procedure no. 6411 and the law on the execution of sentences and security measures.
The legislative proposal for ill prisoners stressed that the judiciary didn't consider the reports of forensic medicine institutions adequate and in addition considered the “public safety” threat before releasing ill prisoners. Tuğluk pointed out that prisoners who are regarded to constitute a risk for public safety aren't released even in the event of facing a critical condition that requires their release. Tuğluk noted that the judicial discretion concerning the “public safety” issue invalidated the medical reports.
It is not a human treatment to abandon the fate of bed-bound prisoners with terminal illnesses to the arbitrary practices of the anti-terror police department, Tuğluk underlined and demanded a legal arrangement for the removal of the “public safety” imposition on ill prisoners.
