Turkish Election Commission transfers polls to different places

The move will affect some 150,000 voters

Turkish Election Commission (YSK) has accepted the application filed by the Hakkari Governor for the transfer of 134 villages and borughs polls to 38 different places in the forthcoming 24 June elections.

In the districts of Hakkari center, Gever (Yüksekova), Şemzînan (Şemdinli) and Çelê (Çukurca), 1 out of 3 people (of a total of 150 registered voters) will be forced to vote in a place different from the usual one.

In the elections of 7 June and 1 November 2015, the Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) in Hakkari was the first party and elected 3 deputies scoring some 90 percent of the votes.

The HDP is expected to obatin similar results in Hakkari on 24 June. However, the polls in the villages and neighborhoods where the HDP is very strong will be transferred to villages with a strong village guards presence for alleged 'security reasons'.

Over 50,000 voters will be affected by the transferring of the station polls.

DBP Hakkari Provincial co-chair, Süleyman Kanat, said that the AKP fears the will of the people in Hakkari. Nevertheless, he said, the people of Hakkari will give a lesson to the AKP. Kanat added that the YSK and AKP aimed at preventing the people from voting.

Kanat, who stated that the decision of YSK to move the polls to the Dara area is unacceptable, added: "This decision is taken consciously and deliberately, because there are hostile families in the Dara area and the YSK ultimately aims at not letting people vote. Despite the obstacles, - he added - our people will go to the polls and cast their votes".
