Uncertainty continues after the elections in Iraq

The Press Office of Iraqi Prime Minister Haider Al-Abadi released a written statement regarding the incidents and discussions following Saturday’s elections in Iraq and southern Kurdistan, northern Iraq.

The statement called for an immediate end to the turmoil that followed the elections in Kirkuk and Kurdistan Region, saying that security forces must ensure an environment of peace in Kirkuk and other cities of Kurdistan Region as soon as possible.

Referring to the problems experienced between the parties over the results of elections, the statement said the Independent High Election Commission of Iraq must urgently do its job to prevent the problems from growing, and reveal the true results after dealing with suspicious ballot boxes in the regions where discussions arose.
