Women have called on Kurds living in Europe to support the hunger strikes with different actions.

Support by Kurdish Employers Association

A group of employers from Paris, members of the Association of Kurdish Employers of France (UEFK), came to Strasbourg and visited the hunger strikers.

Mehmet Subaşı spoke on behalf of the UEFK delegation and underlined that one of the important processes of the Kurdish struggle is the resistance carried out through hunger strikes.

Subaşı said that they could not remain indifferent to such an action as UEFK and said that they came to Strasbourg in order to be with the activists and support them.

Sevim: Our people’s resistance should be on the agenda

Mehmet Nimet Sevim reminded the employers that HDP Hakkari MP Leyla Güven has been on hunger strike for 77 days and the fast is taking its toll on her health.

Sevim added: “Leyla Güven and Nasır (Yağız) health condition is what worries us, more than our own health. The most important result of our action would be to achieve our goals. For this, our people have to spread this resistance everywhere, deepen it, so we can reach our goal.”

Sevim, who underlined the fact that the Kurds in Europe need to do their best to bring the hunger strike on the international agenda, said to be sure that “the resistance will succeed. We have no choice but to win. We resisted, and this is the beginning of victory.”

Hunger strikers’ health situation

The 14 hunger strikers, including HDP former MP Dilek Öcalan, journalist Gülistan Çiya İke and co-chair of the Kurdish Democratic Society of Europe (KCDK-E) Yüksel Koç, are continuing their fast.

On the 38th day of the hunger strike, the health status of the activists continues to deteriorate.

KCDK-E co-chair Mr. Yüksel Koç has suffered from extreme weight loss, concentration and sleep disturbance.

Other activists also suffered weight loss and were given a general health screening on Monday. This reveals excessive sensitivity to noise and light, imbalance in blood rhythm and imbalances in blood pressure.

Making a statement on the subject, Dr. Fahrettin Gülşen pointed out that the situation of the activists is of great concern to doctors.
