Visitors expressed solidarity to Strasbourg hunger strikers

Hunger strikers received the visit of many people at the weekend.

European Kurdish Democratic Society Congress (KCDK-E) co-chair, Yüksel Koç, former HDP deputy Dilek Öcalan and politician Mustafa Sarıkaya are among the 14 activists on hunger strike in Strasbourg.

The other hunger strikers are: journalist Gülistan Çiya Ike, Nurgul Basaran, Ramazan Imir, Mehmet Nimet Sevim, Mohamad Ghaderi, Deniz Khuritim, Ayvaz Ece, Kardo Bokani, Kerem Solhan, Agit Ural and Ekrem Yilmaz.

Çira TV workers visited hunger strikers

Çira TV workers came to Strasbourg to visit their colleague Gülistan Çiya İke and the other hunger strikers.

Speaking on behalf of Çira TV workers, Selman Aslan said that the hunger strikers are shouldering a rather difficult burden.

Emphasizing the importance of the action in an extremely difficult process, Selman Aslan added that everyone should support this hunger strike.

Aslan reiterated the importance of getting news about the hunger strikes out to the world, and said Kurdish media are making the best effort to ensure this.

Hunger striker Kardo Bokani thanked Çira TV workers and said that indeed the current situation has many risks, the biggest one is that threatening HDP Hakkari MP Leyla Güven, who is on her 75th day of fast.

Pointing out the importance of their resistance against isolation, Bokani underlined that they will not end the hunger strike until isolation against Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan is lifted.

Hunger strikers in Strasbourg are on the 36th day of fast and their health condition is getting worse with every passing day.

Dr. Fahrettin Gulsen is expected to make a statement about the issue.

Support from Socialist Women’s Union

Visits to the hunger strikers continued on Monday, despite it being a work day.

Members of the Socialist Women's Union (SKB) came from Paris to Strasbourg to offer their support to the action.

In a short speech the SKB members underlined that they were in solidarity with the Kurdish people and activists against the fascist and dictatorial AKP-MHP alliance.

Visits from the Netherlands, Germany and France

On Monday the hunger strikers in Strasbourg were also visited by Kurds from the Netherlands and Germany.

Kurds came from Bremen and Mannheim as well as from the province of Sachsen.

Mother on hunger striker: We have nothing to lose

The mother of hunger striker Ramazan Imir, Qedriye, said that her wish as a mother was for the hunger strikers to have their demands met without any loss of life.

Qedriye Imir added that Kurds are supporting the hunger strikers as well as organising marches, meetings, rallies and other actions.

Qedriye Imir said that they are demanding Öcalan to be freed and added that “Kurds have nothing left to lose.”
