A delegation of 30 women led by the HDK-HDP (People's Democratic Congress–People's Democratic Party) women's assemblies and DÖKH (Democratic Free Women's Movement) will go to South Kurdistan under the slogan “Solidarity from Sinjar to Gaza”.
The delegation includes CHP (Republican People's Party) MP Melda Onur, HDP deputies Selma Irmak, Sebahat Tuncel and Ayla Akat Ata as well as women journalists and representatives of non-governmental organizations.
Members of the delegation will meet in Mardin today before leaving for South Kurdistan tomorrow.
Speaking to DIHA about the visit, HDK Central Executive Board member, author Hüda Kaya said the delegation of women will have talks with the women deputies in the South Kurdistan parliament, adding that they will also have talks in Makhmur as part of their visit.
Putting emphasis on the importance of the visit to be paid to South Kurdistan by women from different circles, Kaya stressed that; “The more women from different groups come together, the more sensitivity and interest will be shown to the tragedy and pain being suffered up there. A stronger solidarity of women could be established here when we share our observations and talks there with the public once we return.”
Kaya pointed out that they have made this move to witness in person the situation of the people in refugee camps in South Kurdistan, adding that they will also discuss what they can do for the Yezidi people who have taken shelter in North Kurdistan after being forced to flee ISIS attacks.
Kaya added that following their talks and meetings they will organise a number of activities and events to ensure further social sensitivity towards the subjects they will voice.
On the other hand, 15 members of HDP-HDK women's assemblies from Ankara, İstanbul and Çukurova region will pay a five days solidarity visit to the Yezidi women and children who are being accommodated in camps in Şırnak's Silopi district on 16 September.
