Women's vigil begins at Kobanê border

Women coming to Suruç for the 25 November International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women in order to support the resistance of the YPJ, have begun a vigil at the border. The women said: "We are witnessing a historic resistance by women against ISIS in Kobanê and Sinjar.”

The women at the border will continue their vigil night and day until 25 November, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women. Women are responding to a call by the Democratic Free Women's Movement (DÖKH), which issued a press release in the village of Mahser. Hundreds of women from Istanbul, Adana, Izmir, Mersin and Dersîm were present in Mahser for the reading of the press release.

Gülçin Özer read out the press release, saying that a dirty war was being waged by the imperialists against women in particular, adding: "Hundreds of women from Sinjar and in Rojava have been sold in slave markets as trophies of war." Özer emphasised that Kurdish women were fighting against all these policies.

Özer said women in Kobanê and Sinjar were waging a historic struggle against ISIS, which receives support from states. " We are witnessing a historic struggle by women against ISIS gang terror. As the DÖKH we greet all women who are resisting all over the world. We greet all women who are being subjected to all manner of violence and denied the right to life, being sold in markets and slaughtered in the Middle East. We call on the whole world to take ownership of this struggle. Let the entire world come to the border," she added.

The press release ended with women shouting: “Jin jîyan azadî” (women, life, freedom).
