Turkish soldiers from Yakacık military guard post opened fire on hundreds of people who protosted the construction of military guard posts in the village of Yakacık in Diyarbakır's Lice district on Friday.
One person did and eight others were seriously wounded in yesterday's attack. Jiyan Bulut, Nihat Kocakaya and Nebi Aslan, who were also wounded in the bloody attack by soldiers, are still receiving treatment at Dicle University Medical Faculty Hospital, Metin Bulut and Ronida Pervane at Diyarbakır Research Hospital and three others, İsmail Pehlivan, Ramazan Çakıl and Dinar Demir at Lice public hospital.
Medeni Yıldırım, the young boy who was severely wounded in the attack lost his life after he was taken to Lice public hospital in the evening. Yıldırım's body was later taken to Diyarbakır public hospital for autopsy, accompanied by hundreds of people chanting the slogan "Şehid namirin" (martyrs are immortal). BDP (Peace and Democracy Party) co-chair Gültan Kışanak, two lawyers and a doctor from Diyarbakır Chamber of Doctors were also allowed to enter the autopsy room following the strong reaction Kışanak and families waiting in front of the hospital displayed against police who surrounded the hospital with armored vehicles and denied permission to enter the hospital. Early Saturday morning, Yıldırım's body was taken from the hospital by hundreds of people including executives of BDP, DTK (Democratic Society Congress) and NGOs.
The young boy, reportedly at the age of 18, will be laid to rest at Yeniköy Cemetery today following a religious ceremony at Bayramoğlu mosque.
The autopsy report of Yıldırım said that the young boy was shot with a real bullet that came into his right arm, damaged his lungs and went out through his right arm, DIHA (Dicle News Agency) has reported on Saturday.
Intense military activity has been reported in Lice since the incident yesterday evening, with two cobra type helicopters flying over the villages of Dibek (Dêrxust), Çağdaş (Cinezûr) and Yolçatı (Sîsê) till late night. Unmanned aerial vehicles are reported to be carrying out reconnaissance flight in the area since early Saturday morning, with helicopters also flying over the region from time to time.
On the other hand, a specialist sergeant from gendarmerie special operation unit has allegedly been detained by an armed group after the incident last night.
According to the allegations, the specialist sergeant was detained by an armed group that made road control in the region of Yakacık for two hours at night.
Special operation teams have reportedly launched an operation in the area to find the specialist sergeant.
People in Lice are keeping their shops closed today to protest the soldiers' attack on people joining the demo yesterday.
