A plain-clothes policeman had a quarrel with a group of youths who thought he was a thief as he left a house in Yavuz Selim neighborhood late yesterday evening. As the quarrel grew, the policeman opened fire on the youths after starting to run towards the police lodging building across the house which he visited a guest. Selim Deniz (17) who was wounded in the belly in the armed attack was firstly taken to Muradiye hospital before being referred to Van Yüzüncü Yıl Research Hospital.
The boy who has been taken into surgery is reported to have overcome the life-threatening situation after the removal of the bullet from his abdomen. The bullet has reportedly been handed over to police as an evidence.
On the other hand, six youths who were detained as part of the investigation into the incident, have been released after giving testimony at police station.
HDP Van provincial co-chair and lawyer Derya Hayva who has been waiting at hospital since last night told that they would take legal action after their investigation into the incident has ended.
