YPG (People's Defense Units) in a statement claimed that 56 armed groups militants have been killed in the last 24 hours. According to the Kurdish forces the militants belonged to al-Qaeda-linked armed groups and died as a result of the heavy clashes which have been going on since last week. The Kurdish forces have defeated attempts by these armed groups (internationally financed and armed) to occupy parts of the Kurdish territory in their campaign against Kurds. Many civilians are reported dead and the fate of many, who fell in the hands of these armed gangs, remained unknown.
But the YPG have been able to contain and limit the offensive by the islamic groups by taking control of several villages which had witnessed the ruthless violence employed by these gangs. Fifty six militants have been killed and the YPG gained control of a village near Kobani where heavy clashes are going going since Tuesday.
The YPG statement also confirmed that two Kurdish fighters have died and that clashes are continuing.
