YPG (People's Protection Units) Press Centre has announced in a written statement about the ongoing fighting in Kobanê that dozens of gang members have been killed in clashes in the last 24 hours as YPG forces mounted a historic resistance against attacks launched from seven directions.
YPG reported that 26 gang members were killed on the eastern front, 13 at Miştenur hill, 9 on the southern front and 12 in the west in the last one day.
The YPG Press Centre said: "DAISH (ISIS) gang attacks aiming to occupy Kobanê are continuing for a 24th day. Our forces are continuing to mount a historic resistance and to inflict heavy losses on the gangs that are maintaining their concentrated attacks on the southern, western and eastern fronts with reinforcements and weaponry brought in from Raqqa, Dera Zor, Mimbic, Tal Abyad and various points of Iraq."
YPG stated that their forces have also repulsed 3 attacks launched by the gangs on the eastern front late yesterday evening, followed by violent clashes that lasted till early morning hours.
The statement reported that gangs attempted a suicide attack against the YPG forces with a bomb-laden car yesterday noon, adding that the vehicle was detonated following an intervention by YPG forces. 26 gang members were ascertained killed in the fighting in the east, it added.
According to the statement, the strategically important Miştenur hill also witnessed fierce clashes along the day and evening yesterday when 13 members of the gangs were killed and a cannon was destroyed by YPG forces in this area.
The statement continued by reporting that 9 other members of the gangs were killed in hand-to-hand fighting on the western front where YPG forces repulsed 7 separate attacks, killing 12 gang members in clashes that erupted last night and continued till early morning today.
YPG said 9 fighters of their forces have lost their lives resisting to the intensified attacks by the gangs in the last 24 hours of fighting.
The YPG additionally stated that clashes broke out in the village of Dehma to the southwest of Serêkaniyê after an attack was launched by ISIS gangs targeting the YPG fighters in the area. YGP said clashes in the area are continuing, witnessing a stiff response by YPG forces inflicting a blow on the gangs, and added that the bodies of three gang members killed here were seized by their fighters.
