Famous Dutch doctor visited Kurdish hunger strikers

While the hunger strikers said they would not accept any treatment, the Dutch doctor said he respected the will of the activists.

Dutch doctor Co Van Melle, known for his solidarity with refugees and migrants in the Netherlands, has visited and examined the two Kurdish activists on an indefinite hunger strike in the city of the Hague.

The Kurdish activists Hüseyin Yıldız and Hasbi Çakıcı are in the third month of their fast demanding the end of the isolation regime executed by the Turkish state against Kurdish People’s Leader Abdullah Öcalan.

The 82-year-old doctor listened to the two hunger strike activists as they told him about the goal of their protest and then examined them.

The doctor diagnosed health issues in the eyes, kidneys, muscles, joints and skin of Hüseyin Yıldız, and visual impairment, headache and kidney problems for Hasbi Çakıcı.

Doctor Co Van Melle warned that the health conditions of the two activists are critical and suggested that they shoud be treated as soon as possible.

While the hunger strikers said they would not accept any treatment, the Dutch doctor said he respected the will of the activists, adding; “I hope your demands are met in the soonest time.”
