Opinion leaders from Derik call on the UN to act

Opinion leaders from Derik called on the UN and human rights organizations to fulfill their humanitarian duty against the Turkish threats against the Northern and Eastern Syrian territories, which have embraced thousands of migrants from Syria and Iraq.

Arab, Kurdish, Chaldean, Assyrian, Syriac and Yazidi opinion leaders gathered in front of the Derik Tribes Council building in a press conference about the Turkish state’s threats of invasion against Northern and Eastern Syria.

Shex Sinan Ehmed from the Religious Scholars Union read the statement, which included the following:
“We strongly condemn the AKP and Erdogan led Turkish state’s threats against Syria in general and Northern and Eastern Syrian territories in particular.

The Turkish state has trampled all human values, violated all principles and international treaties, and done so in front of the whole world to see. The Turkish state gathered terrorists from all around the globe, made them attack our lands and spread them throughout the world again. They are targeting all the peoples of the region. Their goal is to destroy our gains, which we achieved with our martyrs.

We are calling on the UN Security Council and to human rights organizations to fulfill their humanitarian duty towards the people of the region who have embraced thousands of Iraqi and Syrian migrants with open arms."
