Sirîn has become an example of common and shared life

The town of Sirîn, 42 km south of Kobanê, was liberated from the ISIS gangs in 2015 by the YPG and YPJ forces.

Giant steps were taken along with freedom in the district and the people formed their own administration.

Sirîn became a center of peace and security

Before the liberation the province of Sirîn was known as an ISIS organized center of massacre attacks.

On 25 June 2015, ISIS mercenaries carried out a massacre in Kobanê and the village of Berx Batan.

Now the province has become a center of peace and safety, thanks to the common work of citizens.

‘The district had been destroyed’

"The district was like a gathering center for ISIS", Mehmûd El-Berho, co-deputy-president of Sirîn Province Council told ANHA. "Its entire infrastructure was destroyed. A common and demanding work was needed to revive life in the district. "

Rebuilding Sirîn

El-Berho said that they started to work beginning from the basic needs of people. "We opened bakeries and repaired the power lines that ISIS mercenaries had exploded from the beginning. As a result of uninterrupted efforts for 3 months, we also repaired the water lines destroyed by ISIS."

El-Berho said that they started to build public houses, municipalities, health and cultural centers and emphasized that all these works were carried out under extreme shortage of resources.

El-Berho said the administration has completed the restoration of roads and sewerage, water and electricity lines.

Education

Hisên Hemed Remî, Sirîn from the School Administration, said that there is a big difference between the first days of freedom in the district and the current conditions in what education is concerned. Remî explained that all the institutions in the district were destroyed by ISIS and added: "We started a war against the dark mentality created by ISIS in the region. Then we started to reopen the schools that were converted into military bases and ammunition centres."

Remî said that 16,500 students are now studying in the rebuilt schools.

Health

Emanî El-Berho, who participated in the health activities in the district, said: "The health centers in the district were used by ISIS gangs as military centers. The mercenaries used all centers as ammunition storages."

Emanî said that they started to work on rebuilding and reforming health centres with very little resources: “The health centers were repaired and started to function again. In addition to the emergency department, there are also women's and children's departments in health centers."

The town of Sirîn, where ISIS almost destroyed, became a center of common life of different peoples and beliefs working together to defend the precious freedom they won back.
