Democratic Union Party (PYD) Presidential Committee member Foza Yusif gave information about the content of her meetings with PUK leader Bafil Talabani.

Foza Yusif, drawing attention to the great threats against Kurdistan, said: “A policy of genocide against all Kurds is being carried out. For this reason, the unity between political parties all over Kurdistan is historical and vital.”

Foza Yusif said that Yekîtiya Niştimaniya Kurdistan (PUK) party has had a national stance since the beginning of the Rojava Revolution, and added that she discussed the dangers in the four parts of Kurdistan, its national unity and the fight against ISIS with PUK leader Bafil Talabani.

'PUK's role is important in achieving national unity and the stability of the region'

Pointing out that there should be a common strategy among Kurds in order to protect the gains of the Kurdish people against the threats to the 4 parts of Kurdistan, Yusif said: “Cooperation between Kurdish forces and parties is very important in this regard. We underlined the importance of a common strategy against genocide policies. As PYD, we said that we are ready to support all kinds of activities that serve national unity. We will support all the work carried out by the PUK in this regard and we will carry out this work together. We drew attention to the role of the PUK in achieving national unity. We can say that the enemy is waging a very dirty war to divide the Kurdish people and Kurdistan and start a conflict. For this reason, we expressed that we are ready to play a role in protecting the gains, especially the gains of Bashur. In the future, some work will be carried out within the framework of the national strategy. We said that we should carry out these activities together.”

Yusif said that the PYD wants the PUK to lead in some work. “We focused on the role of the PUK in solving the Syrian problems. Mr. Jalal Talabani had an important role in the region. We also pointed out that the PUK can play an important role in the stability of the region. It was a very successful visit. We believe that it will serve the national stance, the interests of our people and the stability of the region in all areas.”

Joint diplomacy and cooperation

Foza Yusif said that they also emphasized the importance of continuing joint diplomatic work at the meeting, and added: “Kurds need this kind of work, PYD and PUK can play such a role. This visit was important on many levels. Both sides stressed the need to continue these efforts and cooperation. Cooperation between Bashur and Rojava Kurdistan should be strengthened. Both sides showed their determination on this issue. We wanted strategic relations between the Kurds to be developed, and the PYD and PUK to take the lead in this matter. The PUK stated that they are ready for this job. This joint work is especially important for national unity.”

Struggle against ISIS

Foza Yusif said that the fight against ISIS was also discussed in the meeting. “We focused on joint work against ISIS and talked about the importance of this fight. ISIS is now reorganizing in Rojava, Northern and Eastern Syria and Iraq. That's why the joint struggle relationship is so important. Both sides stressed that this cooperation should be continued. Maybe such meetings will be held in Suleymaniyah in the future.”

'We see this commitment in Talabani'

Foza Yusif said: "There is a genocidal war against the Kurds. Bakur, Bashur and Rojava are in danger. There is a need for a common stance among the Kurds against agreements such as Lausanne. This unity treaty will destroy the genocide treaties. Such efforts will also serve this purpose. We believe that if we carry out these activities, history will not repeat itself. We saw this determination in Mr. Bafil Talabani and this is very important.”
