Protests against Turkish massacre of Kurdish activists in Kobanê

In many cities in northern and eastern Syria, people are taking to the streets against the attacks of the Turkish army. The occasion is the targeted killing of three women, including activists of the women's movement, by Turkish armed drone.

In a Turkish drone attack on the village of Helincê (Halinja) near Kobanê on Tuesday evening, two members of the regional coordination of the women's movement, Kongreya Star, Zehra Berkel and Hebûn "Mizgîn" Mala Xelîl, and the owner of the attacked house, Amina Waysî, were deliberately killed.

People demand accountability

Against this massacre thousands of people took to the streets on Wednesday morning in the regions of Euphrates and Cizire (Jazira). In Qamishlo activists marched in front of the United Nations (UN) headquarters and unfurled a banner saying: "We demand accountability for the blood of our martyrs and the cries of our children”. Later today, large demonstrations are expected in all major cities in Northern Syria.

Autonomous Administration: Guarantor powers must fulfil responsibility

The autonomous administration of the Euphrates region appealed to Russia and the USA to assume their responsibility and to make Turkey fulfil the obligations arising from their agreements. The autonomous administration condemned the attack against the three women as an "act of terrorism" and stressed that Russia has a role as a guarantor power through the agreement concluded with Turkey last October. The agreement between Washington and Ankara also established a ceasefire. Therefore the USA and the international coalition must also live up to this responsibility, said the statement.
