Resistance to the occupation of Afrin by the Turkish state and its militias continues. According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR), two protests were held in Afrin over the last 24 hours against the Turkish state and its militias, which saw the participation of dozens of people.
At the Azadi (Freedom) Square in Afrin, people gathered and demanded the release of a media activist who was abducted by the occupying forces, accusing al-Hamzah Division of kidnapping him and taking him to one of detention centers. The demonstrators stated that they will repeat the actions until the media activist is released.
The second action took place in the Mahmudiya neighborhood where tens of citizens called on the Turkish forces -who are present in the city- to put an end to their violations, as well as the Islamic factions in the city who enjoy a lack of accountability while looting the citizens and their property and insulting them.
Syrian Observatory for Human Rights obtained information confirming that the second demonstration in al-Mahmudiya area came after an attack by members from al-Hamzah Division against one of the owners of electricity generators in the city, who was assaulted and insulted for asking one of the members of al-Hamzah Division to pay his accumulated dues due to his electricity subscription through the owner’s generator.
A few days earlier, the SOHR confirmed that factions of the Operation “Olive Branch” which are located in Afrin area, are still continuing to loot and seize the property of the citizens. The residents confirmed that factions have imposed royalties on the owners and farmers of the agricultural lands and farms in Afrin area, while they burn the crops of those who refuse to pay the royalties.
