First day at school in post-ISIS Raqqa

A school opened its doors to students for the first time in four years in Raqqa’s Al-Mashleb neighbourhood.

More than eight hundred children started Wehde School in Raqqa, after Al-Mashleb neighbourhood was cleared of mines and booby traps.

After Raqqa’s Civil Council approved the decision, Wehde School started education with 11 teachers.

The principal Abdulrezak Hemud said that the school building was made ready for education after the area was cleared of mines and debris.

“We will do everything for the education of these kids” Hemud said.

Raqqa was liberated by Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) last month. It ended four-year ISIS rule in the city.
