SDF: Turkey weakens efforts for a solution in the Syrian crisis

SDF General Command stated that Turkey is weakening the efforts to find a solution to the Syrian crisis with their violations and their practices.

Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) General Command issued a written statement on the invading Turkish state’s violations on the border with Northern Syria.

The statement includes the following:

“As Syrian Democratic Forces, we want to have peace and security at our borders with neighboring countries, and especially with Turkey. But the violations against the people living along the border line continue to create fear and hinder everyday activity. Most recently, a citizen was shot at as they were on the Girê Spî (Tal Abyad) border on Monday (yesterday), and has been hospitalized for treatment.

As Syrian Democratic Forces, we have secured the border line with the Turkish state as necessary throughout the crisis in Syria, we never acted as a force that attacks or causes chaos along the border.

As we very clearly state our approach to the matter, we are calling on the international community and all human rights organizations to fulfill their legal duties regarding the violations and provocation attempts against the people of the region. These attacks are considered affronts to the sovereignty of the Syrian state in international law, and are listed as interference with the border security of neighboring countries in interstate treaties.

These violations happening at the most delicate stage of the Syrian crisis also come at a time when terrorism is near its end, steps are being attempted to end all violence and the search for a political solution for Syria’s security continue.

We believe that these practices by the Turkish state are weakening the efforts to find a solution to the Syrian crisis and aim to fan the flames of violence once again.”
