Turkish state blocks river Belîx flow into northern Syria

The Turkish state has dammed the Belîx River, which flows about 110 kilometers through northern Syria, and stopped the flow. That's why thousands of hectares of agricultural land are now withering away.

The Turkish state keeps accumulating rivers flowing to northern Syria. Due to the reduction of the Euphrates flow, great damage has already been done to the North Syrian agriculture and the power supply of the region is massively limited.

In addition to the Euphrates, the Belîx River is the region's most important water supply. Now Turkey has practically stopped this river as well. The agriculture in the northeast of Raqqa and Girê Spî has so far been fully supplied from the Belîx. Due to the closure of Turkey's locks, a 1,000-hectare area in northern Syria is threatened with desiccation along the 110-kilometer-long river.

Îsa El-Hemûd and Mihemed El-Esker are among the affected farmers in the region. They complain that damming the river is dehydration of their fields.

Turkey continues its attacks on the civilian population of northern Syria systematically and in various forms. Dehydration is one of the methods used.
