The two delegations discussed the rights violations experienced in Turkey ranging from withdrawal from Istanbul Convention to isolation practices executed in prisons.
The Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) Women's Diplomacy Commission held an online meeting with members of the Women's Committee of Denmark’s Red-Green Alliance.
The online meeting was attended by HDP Women's Council Spokesperson Ayşe Acar Başaran, Women’s Diplomacy Commission Spokesperson and Middle East Desk Co-Spokesperson Gülistan Kılıç Koçyiğit, Foreign Affairs Deputy Co-Chair Feleknas Uca and Foreign Relations Commission member Ayşe Berktay.
The Danish participants included Red-Green Alliance Women's Committee members Sinem Demir, Anne Hegelund and Maria Temponeras.
The two sides discussed the rights violations experienced in Turkey from Turkey’s withdrawal from Istanbul Convention on protection against violence to isolation practices executed in prisons.
In the meeting HDP’s Women's Council Spokesperson Ayşe Acar Başaran pointed out that Turkey’s withdrawal from the Istanbul Convention does not only concern Turkey’s women.
"We need to increase the international women's struggle against the monist, militarist, nationalist male-dominated mentality all over the world," she said.
HDP deputy co-chair for Foreign Affairs, Feleknas Uca said, "The Istanbul Convention takes its importance from the struggles of the women. Therefore, women must defend this convention together."
The participants emphasized that the decision to withdraw from the Istanbul Convention and isolation practices in Turkey’s prisons should be evaluated as a whole. The international community should carry out joint activities on these issues, they said.
