Mesopotamia Women Journalists’ Platform celebrates March 8

Mesopotamia Women Journalists’ Platform said, "We use our cameras and pens to report on women who are subjected to violence and oppression".

Mesopotamia Women Journalists’ Platform issued a written statement on the occasion of March 8, International Women's Day.

The statement said: “We, women journalists, say 'We are here, we are always together' for 8 March, which we welcome with hope and faith inspired by women who say, 'We were, we are, we will be there’ despite the increasing femicides.”

'WE HAVE TRIED TO REVEAL THE TRUTH'

Last year, we tried to cover the resistance and reveal the truth just as women did not keep silent against the government, the male domination and press which were disturbed by the laughter of women.

As women who believe that if women are liberated, society will be liberated, we went wherever the burden of women increased with the epidemic, women’s rights were violated and femicides were legitimized throughout 2020, from Argentina to India, from Izmir to Batman.

And we used our cameras and pens not for 'women' who support the misogynist government, but for the mother who was battered in Batman and İpek, Emine, Melek, Berjin, Asya and dozens of other women. Knowing that March 8 is a day of rebellion and anger, we are here, we are together...

We know that no woman's story will be left unfinished, and a woman can change anything if she wants. We have witnessed this many times and made the news. Resistance makes women beautiful, changes the world, and it remains for us to convey this moment.

As the Mesopotamia Women’s Journalists Platform, we commemorate all the women we lost on March 8, and we repeat that their dreams are our dreams and none of us are alone for a better world. We salute those who fight against the darkness with light and faith..."
