PYD Women’s Council congratulated all women in the world who defend human and democratic values in the arenas of struggle and let every day of the year be a women's day.
The Women's Council of the Democratic Union Party underlined the need for "every day of the year to be a women's day," pointing to the "narrow reactionary mindsets that used all brutal and inhuman methods to target women, especially the fascist Turkish state."
On Sunday, the Council issued a statement to public opinion, in which it congratulated all the women defending human and democratic values in the global arenas of struggle, on the 8th of March.
The statement by PYD Women’s Council includes the following:
“It is no secret that the demand for equality and freedom has always been one of the first struggles of women all over the world. The ruling and authoritarian male regimes have worked from the beginning of history to the present day to eliminate the sanctity of women and their divine attributes, and to transform them into something subordinate, in which they are not entitled to any right under the name of outdated customs and traditions. This was the reason for the suicide and killing of many women in the world, but with struggle and determination, women broke all the restrictions they were subject to demanding their rights and freedom for all women.
In northern and eastern Syria, this holy land was watered with the blood of the martyrs. Under the leadership of free militant women, women have achieved unprecedented epics. They resisted, struggled and restored the colors of the spring, becoming an example for all women in the world. This process rendered women vulnerable to narrow reactionary mindsets that applied all brutal and inhuman methods. Foremost of these is the fascist Turkish state, which has deliberately targeted women since the victory of women means the victory of freedom and democracy. The Turkish state followed methods of oppression and murder against women in Afrin, Serekaniye (Ras-al-Ain) and Gire Spi (Tal Abyad) after their occupation and forced displacement of the people. Still, this did not reduce the determination and struggle of women, but rather made them resist more resolutely for freedom and for a return to these lands after their liberation from terrorism.
We congratulate all the women in the world who defend human and democratic values in the arenas of struggle and let every day of the year be a women's day.”
