Books published in Kurdish on the increase

The number of Kurdish books published is increasing with each passing year. At least 115 Kurdish books were published by various publishing houses in 2010.

Parallel to the expanding of the struggle given for securing mother language and its becoming the language of instruction, the number of books published in Kurdish is increasing every day. While the number of published Kurdish book is seen higher than years 2007 and 2008, it is 3 books less than 2009.

The number of books published in Kurdish is 109 in 2007, 97 in 2008 and 118 in 2009. However, dozens of books from those years were published by municipalities. In 2010 only, 115 Kurdish works were published by Aram, Ava, Avesta, Belge, Belki, Do, Doz, Diyarbakýr Kurdish Institute, Lis, Nubihar, Peri, Ronahi, Vate, Welat and Zaningeh publications. The number of books published by the municipalities couldn’t be learned.

While Lis publications published most books with 21 copies, Avesta publications published 17 and Do publications 16 books. Compared with previous years, a large increase is observed in the number of the books translated. Lis publications translated 10 books into Kurdish. While a total of 15 poetry books were published in 2009, this number increased to 21 in 2010. The poetry books are followed by 16 short-story books and 13 novels.

However, there is a decrease in the number of Kurdish books published by some publications. Lis publications for instance, published 25 Kurdish books in 2007, 12 in 2008, 11 in 2009 and 21 in 2010. Do publications published 21 books in 2009 and 16 in 2010. While Aram publications published a book in 2009, this number increased to 4 in 2010. And Avesta published 14 books in 2009 and 17 in 2010.
