Do Not Forget Me Istanbul: six directors for the city's stories

Six acclaimed foreign directors will shoot short films about Istanbul. "Unutma Beni Istanbul" ("Do Not Forget Me Istanbul") is part of a project carried out within the scope of the city being European Capital of Culture 2010. The first film to be shot is by the Bosnian director Aida Begic, who won the "Critics Week Grand Prize" at the 2008 Cannes Film Festival with her movie "Snow".

Acclaimed director Hüseyin Karabey (Gitmek - My Marlon and Brando) and producer Sevil Demirci have adapted the stories into the film which will be shot by the 6 foreign directors. Script advisor of the project will be legendary Greek director Theodoros Angelopoulos' scenarist Petros Markaris. The editing will be by famous director Eric Rohmer’s editor Mary Stephen. The Project will also be a common work between foreign directors and Turkish musicians, art directors and directors of photography.

Aside from Begic, Stefan Arsenijevic from Serbia, Stergios Niziris from Greece, Omar Shargawi from Denmark, Hany Abu-Assad from Palestine and Eric Nazarian from USA will shoot short films telling stories about Istanbul.

In Aida Begic there are well known artist playing, such as Kar (Snow)’s actress Alma Terzic; the leading actress of Gitmek, Marlom and Brandom Ayça Damgacý and young actor Cem Özeren.

In the film, Bosniac actress Alma, who comes to Istanbul to participate to the selection of the performance Othello, tries to rehears in the hotel while at the same time trying to cope with her jealous boyfriend who keeps phoning her. Alma persuades hotel staff member Ayça to rehearse with her but Ayça’s realistic approach to things drives the rehearsal to an unexpected turn.

The shootings are expected to be completed by the end of October.
