The Yazidi New Year's Day, also called Charshema Sor or the Red Wednesday, is being celebrated by the people on Mount Sinjar.

Large numbers of people from the Yazidi community who are living in camps on Mount Sinjar are visiting the Sherfaddin shrine at the peak of the mountain.

Charshema Sor, which is regarded as the beginning of the creation story in the Yazidi philosophy, is represented by green, red and yellow colored eggs symbolizing fertility.

This year's feast on Mount Sinjar is accompanied by a sadness of the Yazidi people who are not able to visit the graves like they do every year to mark the holy Yazidi feast.
