Growing support for the international campaign 'I want to visit Abdullah Öcalan'

The Iraqi Initiative for the Freedom of Abdullah Öcalan has announced its support for the international campaign launched to meet with Abdullah Öcalan.

A new campaign titled 'I want to visit Abdullah Öcalan' has been launched under the initiative of the European Freedom and Peace Platform (EFFP), calling for in-person visits to be allowed with Mr. Öcalan at Imralı Prison. As part of the campaign, official requests will be submitted to Turkey’s Ministry of Justice. In addition, video messages will be shared on social media to support the appeal.

The Iraqi Initiative for the Freedom of Abdullah Öcalan said in a statement that Öcalan’s February 27 ‘Call for Peace and a Democratic Society’ meant a free and democratic society.

“The call also shows that political work is not the property of a single political party or ideology, but rather the work of a society and its people. This call is the idea and method of democracy, freedom, and peace,” said the statement on Monday.

The initiative pointed out that Öcalan is working to resolve the problems of peoples and societies and to build a democratic society, calling on Turkey to stop its destructive actions and heed the Kurdish leader’s call.

The initiative announced its support for the campaign, saying, “We, as the Iraqi Initiative for the Freedom of Abdullah Öcalan, support all efforts for peace and call on Turkey to comply with international agreements and release Leader Abdullah Öcalan.”

The statement concluded: “We express our support for the campaign 'I Want to Visit Abdullah Öcalan’. We wish to confirm that the Iraqi Initiative for the Freedom of Abdullah Öcalan is part of a larger struggle and cooperation with the European Platform for Freedom and Peace. This great humanitarian effort marks the beginning of a new journey toward the recognition of a civilized society and the construction of a democratic society with the freedom of Mr. Öcalan from İmralı Prison.”
