Hossein Hosseini, a Kurdish political and cultural activist from Marivan, Kurdistan Province, has been detained in Bodrum, Turkey, along with his wife, Nasrin Khoshnavaziyan, and their two children, aged 10 and 13. The family has been transferred to the Muğla deportation camp, where they face imminent forced repatriation to Iran.
According to the Kurdistan Human Rights Network (KHRN), Hosseini fled Iran in 2019 due to threats stemming from his political and cultural activities and sought refuge in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, where he continued his activism.
Last week, as the family attempted to travel through Turkey towards Europe, Turkish authorities detained them in Bodrum in western Turkey and transferred them to the Muğla camp.
KHRN reported that the family travelled legally from Iran to Turkey with valid passports and joined Hosseini in Bodrum.
Despite this, they were detained, and reports from the Mugla camp describe their living conditions as severely inadequate, particularly for the two children, aged 10 and 13.
Camp officials have indicated that the family is likely to be forcibly returned to Iran.
If deported, Hosseini faces a high risk of arrest and trial due to his continued political and cultural activism.
